Totally removing a tree or trees to ground level. Trees may be felled from the ground or dismantled in sections to the ground.
Why should one fell a tree?
Dead or diseased
Again, like all living organisms’ trees are susceptible to diseasing that can kill them.
Structural damage
Wind or storm damaging not only the lateral branches but also the main stem
Poor or incorrect work practices
Previous works carried on trees can limit the options one has and, in some cases, felling may be the only safe option.
Decay
Rotting wood caused in most cases by fungi which can cause partial or total structural failure of a tree
Size & location
Trees & shrubs can simply become too big for their locations and pruning or thinning may not be a viable option
Safety
Even a healthy tree can be a serious hazard. If a tree does pose a threat to life or limb, safety has always to come first
The aforementioned are some of the main reasons but not limited to why a tree would have to be felled.
